Much Deserved Recognition -- Message from Principal Garber

CCC photo.jpg

Recognized for our Caring School Climate

At least six thousand students have matriculated through Cabrillo Middle School (CMS) since I began teaching in room twenty-two, twenty-two years ago.  So much has changed since I arrived; Common Core is the new instructional approach, SBAC is the new testing method, Local Control is the new Funding Formula, the school has been rebuilt from the ground up and the 49ers moved to Santa Clara, built Levi’s Stadium and decided to begin the 49ers STEM Leadership Institute at CMS.

But despite all these changes, the CMS faculty has remained remarkably stable with seasoned teachers taking on leadership roles, like participation in our Culture Climate Committee (CCC). This committee meets regularly to take a realistic look at issues on campus, while developing strategies to provide for student happiness and safety. The implementation of our Anti-Bully Days is a good example of a program that they have created.

So effective is the CCC’s work that it was just announced that CMS will receive Project Cornerstone’s Caring School Climate – Middle School Award in March. Being recognized by Project Cornerstone is a wonderful achievement for the school and I’m proud of Vice Principal Auger and the faculty, for making this happen.
